Ten years ago, Ragged Edge 4×4 looked very different.
At one point we had around eight staff.
And honestly?
I spent more time training staff than training customers.
That wasn’t why I built the business.
Over time I realised the best part of Ragged Edge wasn’t managing people.
It was teaching customers.
Watching somebody go from nervous and confused to confident and genuinely capable behind the wheel.
That’s what I actually enjoyed.
So the business evolved.
Fewer people.
Better coaching.
Harder tracks.
Longer sessions.
More technical driving.
And most importantly:
Direct coaching from the founder every session.
That shift changed everything.
Customers advanced faster.
The coaching became more tailored.
The tracks became more challenging.
And the overall experience became far more personal.
The move to fully private 1:1 sessions also eliminated the biggest frustration customers often have with adventure experiences:
Waiting around.
At Ragged Edge, there are no groups rotating through obstacles.
No standing around for half the day.
Just one buggy, one instructor and one customer learning continuously the entire session.
That’s a huge reason the Comp Package and especially the Pro Package have become so popular over time.
The longer sessions allow customers to settle into the buggy, build understanding and tackle progressively harder challenges rather than simply “having a go.”
And honestly… it’s a lot more fun for me too.
Located near Geelong in Victoria, Ragged Edge 4×4 continues evolving around one core idea:
Train customers.
Not staff.
